Episode 36 - Happy Birthday To The Parlour!

That's right guys, it's that time of year again! This February sees Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour celebrate it's 3rd birthday (cor blimey!) and as per usual there's a big old bundle of birthday fun here for you to enjoy!

Joining Stacey in The Parlour for a slice of birthday cake and a spot of chinwaggery are two delightful gents; Pat Loika and Isabel Struble*! If you don't know either of these top notch fellas (where have you been?!), now's a good time to get to know them.

Pat was recently heralded as the comic book industry's greatest sidekick in a Buzzfeed article, and they're not wrong! Whether it's through writing and drawing himself, convention attendance and photography, working with Comixology or just reading a ton of comics and watching a load of films, Pat is very much immersed in the nerdy world of pop culture. Who better to chat with then on such topics as conventions and cosplay, what was wrong with the Civil War storyline, the latest Spider-Man news, Batman vs Superman and more! I'd just like to say a little apology to you lovely listeners and to Mr. Struble; I have no idea why but either Skype or Pretty May pitched a bit of a hissy fit during his recording, and so some bits are a bit jumpy and weird, and some bits had to be sliced out completely. I think what's left in there makes sense (mostly) and it's still a pretty great chat, but apologies for the sound and the missing segments. S x

Episode 35 Part 2: Knockers Are Great

Hot on the heels of Episode 35 Part 1 comes Part 2! Lee and I dive into chatting about lots of movies, including Birdman, Dumb & Dumber To, Sin City 2, Ex Machina and more! Stace does a terrible job of selling What We Do In The Shadows (which is a shame, because it is BRILLIANT), Lee gets annoyed by event comics, and the pair lust after the goddess that is Eva Green.

Episode 35 Part 1: Too Much Awesomeness (or How To Waffle Relentlessly)

Hey hey! Welcome to another installment of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour! Remember waaaaaaaaaay back in January 2014 when you were treated to 2 jolly good episodes, because Stacey managed to bag an interview with the legendary (and utterly lovely) Rob Paulsen? Well, this year you're being treated again to 2 heaping podcasts of awesomeness, because Lee and Stacey can't shut up!

The absolutely delightful Lee G (of Small Press Big Mouth fame) makes his triumphant return to the Parlour, following his amazing appearances on the SPCP: Live show. (Seriously; go check them out, they were both great!) In this first slice of fried audio gold, Stacey announces the total money raised from the SPCP: Live show (spoiler: it's an overwhelmingly large amount), Lee and Stace basically cannot shut up about Agent Carter and how much they love pretty much everything about, as well as ranting about spoilers on social media, going off on Captain America-based tangents and pretty much waffling a-plenty. All this, plus Stacey tries to push Frank onto everyone (it's SO GOOD) and Lee gets upset about trailers.

(Apologies for the way the episode cuts off; it was the only vaguely sensible stopping point!)

Podcast In A Half Shell - Episode 3: Let's Learn Ninja-ness!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the third installment of your favourite Midlands-based podcast solely about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Podcast in a Half Shell!

In this episode, Duncan and I chat about the documentary 'Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and how great but lacking in definitive-ness it is, as well talk on our Turtley Christmas swag and giving regular, over-exciteable updates on my TMNT-themed 30th birthday party. All this as well as little cameos from my hubby, Rich, and we go shopping for a ninja manual!

For the majority of the episode (aside from all our tangents, like) we give our thoughts on Paramount's 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie (spoilers a-plenty). We cover everything from 99 cheese pizzas to the complete idiocy of the bad guys' plot, Donnie's amazing spectacles to Raph's Batman voice and much more!

Episode 34 - Festive Commotion in the Kitchen

Well well well, what's this tucked under the Christmas tree?... That's right, a special little podcast gift for you to unwrap and enjoy!

In this episode, Stacey's good friend and cockney tit Phil Thomas joins Stacey in her Parlour (read: kitchen) to talk about their favourite things of 2014 and get very merry on mulled wine! Expect fun ramblings (and potential spoilers) on a myriad of goodies, such as Her, True Detective, Seconds, Birdman, Broad City, The Wicked and The Divine, and TONS more!

On top of their favourite movies, TVs, and comics, Stacey and Phil also throw out some musical recommendations (Note from the Editor: I couldn't be bothered AT ALL to edit in snippets from the songs/albums mentioned, and so at some stage over the next couple of days I shall post a list and any useful links to the music for your audio enjoyment, innit!). All this plus cameos from Rich, Kie and Stacey's hob (as it heats our delicious wine!)

Stacey briefly recaps her recent trip to Thought Bubble Comic Convention in Leeds, including details on how sweaty cosplay can be, how difficult giving out business cards is, and how FLIPPIN' BRILLIANT Thought Bubble is! All this plus some brief reviews of Gone Girl (containing mild spoilers) and The Babadook (containing mild scares), and details of the TB party.

Podcast In A Half Shell - Episode 2: The Future Boat

Welcome, ladies and gents, to Episode 2 of Podcast in a Half Shell; your one-stop pod for all things heroic and half-shelled!

This episode sees Duncan and I chatting about the absolutely epic S2 finale of the current Nickelodeon TMNT cartoon, IDW's Turtles in Time 4 issue mini-series and issue #1 of the TMNT / Ghostbusters crossover. Cor, that's a lot of Turtle goodness! Hear all about what we think of Seth Green replacing Jason Biggs as Leonardo, the emotional gut punch I got on a bus reading Turtles in Time #2 and how much Duncan wants to marry Dan Schoening's artwork.

All this plus we both suffer from TMNT overload and get completely bamboozled by everything; who doesn't want to hear that?! :P

Episode 32 - SPCP: Drunk Edition

L's & G's, welcome to Episode 32 of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour! In this episode, Stacey is joined by her good friend, Kie 'Shotgun' Round, and her delightful hubby, Richnerd; listen in as the three get drunk and silly about pop culture! (Disclaimer: They may actually be drunk to start with, and just get drunker...)

So, what do this Terrific Trio talk about in this mammoth episode of madness? Well, lots, that's what. There's plenty of discussion (and spoilers galore) for Guardians of the Galaxy, Flash, The Walking Dead, Gotham, Marry Me, Frozen (because you all wanted to hear Stace rant about how much she dislikes that film AGAIN) and more! On top of that we talk about our top gigs of the year so far, how much we wanna see Daniel Craig's Bond try to take on Batista, Gone Girl and wrestling, plus quite a liberal sprinkling of singing!

Things take a turn for the spooky as Rich recommends some movies for the Halloween season, Stace freaks out yet again about ET, and Kie suggests we all get weirded out by Kill List. The guys talk about scary video games whilst Stace explains how she can't play them because she's a huge wuss...

Episode 31 - Who's The Baddest Shark Around?

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeehoooooooooooo, The Parlour is back to it's regular programming! After the absolutely EPIC undertaking that was the broadcasting, recording, editing and put-out-ing of the 24 hour live show, things settle back down as Stacey is joined by comedian, actor, voice guy and giver of wise advice; Peter Spellos!

You may remember Peter from such things as Men in Black 2, Dinosaur Island, Transformers: Robots in Disguise and basically any movie that begins with the word 'Bikini'. Listen in as Peter discusses improv comedy, being an extra, falling into voice acting, making up shark-based ditties and much more!

All this, plus Stacey and Peter's thoughts on the new Doctor, two INCREDIBLY UNWELCOME guests, Peter's wonderfully sensible outlook on life and the pair's experiences at Auto Assembly 2014.

Podcast In A Half Shell - Episode 1

Yes, dudes and dudettes; major league butt kicking is back in town!

After a 5 year(ish) hiatus, Podcast In A Half Shell is back! Bringing with it a shiny new logo (HUGE thanks to the legendary Rob Jackson) and a shiny new co-host, your one-stop pod for all things half shell has returned, bigger and better than ever.

In this inaugral episode, new co-host Duncan and I (The Parlour's very own Stacey) discuss the 1990 live action TMNT movie, and how straight up flippin' great it is. We talk about how kick ass the turtle suits are, our favourite scenes in the movie, little niggles we have, Donatello's MASSIVE FLAPPING TOP LIP and much more! Somehow we forget to address that Casey Jones is a murderer in it (a very casual one at that; "Oops...") but we do manage to talk about how I met (and melted in front of) Townsend Coleman, how we came to love the Turtles so much, whether or not film adaptations should stick strictly to source materials or not and, possibly most importantly, we tackle the tough topic of what exactly a crumpet is anyway.
