Wednesday Jun 24, 2015
Laaaaaaaaadies aaaaaaaaaaand gentlemeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnn, welcome to Episode 40 of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour; your monthly ramble fest on all things nerdy. Making his triumphant return to The Parlour is comics writer, doodler, colourerererer and letterer extraordinaire and all-round ruddy lovely man, John-Paul Bove!
John-Paul stops by the Parlour to talk about his shiny new comics project, the one-shot story 'UnEarth' written, coloured and letterd by him with art from the equally delightful Conor Boyle. John-Paul shares his experiences in terms of writing (and writers' anxiety), the self publishing process, promoting yourself at conventions (and scaring a lot of people in the process) and much more! The pair also dive into their thoughts on Avengers: Age of Ultron, Stacey loses her mind over Rick and Morty, and John-Paul pitches a movie to Marvel. All this, plus lots of orchestra talk, an invocation of Lisa Stansfield and a ton of cute, cute animals...
Enjoy!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Episode 39 of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour; your one stop shop for all things pop culture and cakey! (Disclaimer: the cake is a lie). Joining Stacey in the Parlour this month is none other than letterer supreme and jolly lovely bloke, Taylor Esposito!
Taylor and Stacey get down to it immediately, talking about Stacey's thoughts on Avengers: Age of Ulton and Mad Max: Fury Road (spoilers ahoy, particularly for Avengers), whilst Taylor discusses how he feels about the Suicide Squad photos. Also, they talk about Jem and The Holograms (both the comic and the movie trailer) and the importance of Sophie Campbell's stunning new character redesigns, why being left to your own devices when dosed up on tablets due to lady-pains is a bad idea, what the eff is going on in regards to the timeline in the Terminator movies and much, much more!
So grab a slice of your favourite cake, a nice hot beverage and enjoy this little nugget of audio-awesomeness!

Podcast In A Half Shell - Episode 5: With Special Guest
Tuesday May 12, 2015
Tuesday May 12, 2015

Mateus is the mastermind behind both the writing and artwork on the TMNT mini-series 'The Secret History of the Foot Clan', as well as art on the ongoing IDW series and many other projects. Listen in as Duncan and I fail spectacularly at interviewing like sensible people, barely holding in our excitement (and pizza-fuelled burps...) as Mateus talks about working on TMNT, playing arcade games, what the heck happened in Dial H and loads of other interesting stuff besides. All this, plus the South Brazil weather report!
Hope you all enjoy it, folks! (We promise to get better at interviews in the future... Many thanks to Mateus for being so gracious, kind and fun!).

Episode 38: That Chin Though
Sunday Apr 26, 2015
Sunday Apr 26, 2015
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Episode 38 of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour! Making her triumphant return to The Parlour following the absolute madness that was the 24 hour live show last July is friend of the show and jolly spiffing nerd bird, Jenni Newman!
In this episode, Jenni and Stacey get down to the nitty gritty of why Netflix's Daredevil series is the BEST THING EVER (expect ALL THE SPOILERS), including the amazing fight sequences, the fantastic balance between humour and badassery, and the strength of Charlie Cox's super-handsome chin. As well as this, the girls talk trailers, getting over-excited by Avengers: Age of Ultron, thoroughly disappointed by Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and basically put to sleep by Fantastic Four...
And as if that wasn't enough, there's tons of talk on Deadpool, Once Upon A Time, iZombie, Spider-Woman, Stacey's trip to the Birmingham Comics Festival and loads more! So grab a nice, cool bevvie, take a seat out in the sun and enjoy this installment of The Parlour!

Episode 37 - Arnie Tourette's & Squid Fist Bumps
Friday Mar 27, 2015
Friday Mar 27, 2015
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Episode 37 of your favourite pop culture podcast recorded from a king size bed in Birmingham by a woman with an awful memory; Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour! Joining Stacey in the Parlour this month is her good buddy and fellow nerd, Mike The Hod!
In this episode, Stacey and Mike try to tackle the issues with that Batgirl cover and end up being distracted by Nutella, Stacey attempts to come to terms with the ABSOLUTE HORROR of IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 (mind-blowingly large spoilers for that one, beware) and Hod wonders whether the comic industry has shot itself in the foot with all it's continuity-ness. They chat about a horror movie you should see, a horror movie you definitely shouldn't see, Big Hero 6, Arrow, Agent Carter, Last Man On Earth (spoilers for all the above), and developing Arnie-based Tourette's following an Arnie movie marathon...
GET TO DA CUPPA! (I laughed too hard at this; I apologise for my terrible sense of humour - Stace) Enjoy!

End Theme - 'Sweatpants' by Childish Gambino

Monday Mar 09, 2015
Monday Mar 09, 2015

Duncan and I, for some reason, chose to watch the 5 part opening to 1997's absolutely abysmal Ninja Turtles: Next Mutation, and the resulting recorded madness is us basically trying to figure out what on Earth we just saw... From turtle shell boobs to wolf-like Splinter, Leo on a pogo stick to one of the dodgiest sounding ingredients to a potion EVER, listen in as we steadily go bananas trying to wrap our minds around what the heck Saban were thinking with this...
Enjoy!

Episode 36 - Happy Birthday To The Parlour!
Monday Feb 23, 2015
Monday Feb 23, 2015
That's right guys, it's that time of year again! This February sees Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour celebrate it's 3rd birthday (cor blimey!) and as per usual there's a big old bundle of birthday fun here for you to enjoy!
Joining Stacey in The Parlour for a slice of birthday cake and a spot of chinwaggery are two delightful gents; Pat Loika and Isabel Struble*! If you don't know either of these top notch fellas (where have you been?!), now's a good time to get to know them.
Pat was recently heralded as the comic book industry's greatest sidekick in a Buzzfeed article, and they're not wrong! Whether it's through writing and drawing himself, convention attendance and photography, working with Comixology or just reading a ton of comics and watching a load of films, Pat is very much immersed in the nerdy world of pop culture. Who better to chat with then on such topics as conventions and cosplay, what was wrong with the Civil War storyline, the latest Spider-Man news, Batman vs Superman and more! Also find out why Stacey hates the First Avenger, how Pat got into comics, and the pairs thoughts on *that* Fantastic Four teaser...
If you're new to The Parlour, you might not know that Stacey is a HEWGE fan of Image's tip-top comic "L'il Depressed Boy". Imagine her surprise, excitement and social-anxiety-terror when it's writer, the rather splendid Isabell Struble*, popped by The Parlour to talk all things nerdy! Hear more about why L'il Depressed Boy is so great, why meeting famous people is simultaneously wonderful and horrendous, how song lyrics can be completely bamboozling, and more! Stacey shares her thoughts on the new Ghostbusters line up, Isabel shares the origins of LDB and suggestions are made on how best to deal with topless rappers... Also, beards!
Hope you all enjoy this whacking great slice of birthday goodness!
This episode was recorded prior to Isabell's transition and therefore uses her previous name and pronouns, however has been posted with her permission.
Episode Theme - 'Feel Right' by Mark Ronson feat. Mystikal

End Theme - 'Turn Down For What' by DJ Snake & Lil Jon
Hey gang, Stacey here! I'd just like to say a little apology to you lovely listeners and to Mr. Struble; I have no idea why but either Skype or Pretty May pitched a bit of a hissy fit during his recording, and so some bits are a bit jumpy and weird, and some bits had to be sliced out completely. I think what's left in there makes sense (mostly) and it's still a pretty great chat, but apologies for the sound and the missing segments. S x
